WELCOME TO HOCKLIFFE LOWER SCHOOL

CLASS 2

Autumn Term 2008

Our outdoor classroom

When we returned to school in September we picked our beans and dug the carrots we had planted during the summer term. They were delicious. We were disappointed when we discovered the caterpillars had eaten all of our broccolli. The pumpkins were sold at our Harvest Festival to raise money for a water project in Africa.

Our Sunflowers were tall and beautiful. We looked closely at them and drew detailed drawings of them.

In October we planted bulbs, Pansies and Heathers to make our garden colourful during the winter and spring.

Houses and Homes

We have been finding out about homes through the ages. We used papier mache to make a cave and wood and straw to build a Viking home.

 Keeping FIt

We love our PE lessons

 In the Classroom

Our role-play area has taught us about managing a zoo. We had to take bookings, make leaflets and order food for the animals and cafe.

In the zoo shop we sold plastic zoo animals, puppets, posters and books.

Our visit to Salcey Forest

We visited Salcey Forest in Northamptonshire.

We followed the Elephant Trail.

We looked for lots of different leaves and collected them in our bags.

We saw a squirrel jumping from tree to tree eating nuts.

We looked for mini-beasts in an old fallen oak tree.

We saw lots of tiny black tadpoles.

We went on a very high tree top walk.

We could see for miles, all the way to Northampton.

The trees were swaying from side to side.

We saw lots of yellow buttercups and lots of different sorts of grass. We used a colour chart to match all the colours we saw.

Mrs Gittens showed us a piece of fungi.

Back at school we used magnifying glasses to look at the plants closer.

The children are learning about their internal body parts.

The firemen visit the class.

Every year the class use the incubator to hatch duckings.

Our scarecrow looks after our science garden even in the snow.

We love using our interactive whiteboard in our lessons.
